Nasim
Fekrat (Sohrab Kabuli, pen name) 24, is an Afghan young writer and independent
journalist in Kabul who won the international prize of
freedom of expression blog awards organized by Reporters Without Borders in
2005. He is blogging from Kabul in two languages; English http://www.afghanlord.org and Farsi http://kabuli.org. He
start blogging when his satire/cartoon magazine closed by fanatic Islamic
figures. He was forced to leave the country for a short period but he returned
to his country to exercise freedom of speech under pseudonym. Since September
11, 2001, he has been working as freelance writer for various newspapers and
magazines including RFA, BBC Persian online,
Anis daily, Jadid media and Arman
daily. Currently he lives in Kabul commenting on political, social, cultural
and women issues on his blogs alongside photos and podcasting. He has only
finished high school and spent some years as a refugee in
neighboring Pakistan whilst the Taliban was in
power. While in Pakistan, he couldn’t pursue his
education and had to work to support his family. All his media-related knowledge
is self-taught with his own initiative.
