My father, an ordinary middle class guy in Maine, a retired small business owner, has voted on a straight Republican ticket since 1960, without exception. This time he is enthusiastically voting for Obama. The past 8 years of Bush-Cheney were enough to shake him out of the habit. He still loves Ronald Reagan, but he sees that after Bush the Republican party needs a serious shake-up and a sort of "time out" for a term or two, so that it can restore itself to health, and once again have some real principles and integrity.
