Back from her vacation at taxpayer’s expense Speaker Pelosi indulged us with an op-ed detailing what she presumes are her achievements. Grab a barf bag before you continue reading. If the erstwhile Pelosi really believes she is achieving anything beyond economic chaos please phone in because by our calculations this lady couldn’t run a successful fish stand on Fisherman’s Wharf. Pelosi writes:

This is not the first Congress Ms. Pelosi has presided over and her record stinks of dead fish on a San Francisco pier. For the record: In January 2007, the U.S. economy employed 137.3 million people and our nation’s unemployment rate stood at 4.6%. According to the Labor Department’s most recent report, the U.S. economy has shed 6.3 million jobs since then, and 10% of our workforce is now unemployed. January 2007 is when Pelosi began her tenure as Speaker of the House. Although Barack Hussein Obama’s stimulus plan has proven to be a complete failure Ms. Pelosi is claiming 1.6 million jobs have been created or saved (See our post considering this blunder). Pelosi moves on to brag about "Cash for Clunkers" as one more Liberal success but the facts are no auto sector jobs were created, the environment was not saved and auto sales were in the tank. In fact, the "Cash for Clunkers" debacle was more reminiscent of having the "Humpty Dumpty Effect." Why ponder Ms. Pelosi’s past "achievements" when we can look towards the future and prepare for more "achievement we can do without." Pelosi is promising continued action on the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade legislation. A Heritage Foundation analysisof the Waxman-Markey energy legislation found that for a household of four, energy costs (electric, natural gas, gasoline expenses) would rise by $436 in 2012 and by $1,241 by 2035, averaging $829 over that period. Higher energy costs would also increase the cost of many other products and services. Overall, Waxman-Markey would reduce gross domestic product by $393 billion annually and by a total of $9.4 trillion by 2035. If you find cap-and-trade, affectionately known as "cap-and-tax", Pelosi has more "achievement" planned. Pelosi promises "the most sweeping reform of the financial industry since the Great Depression." Heritage fellow James Gattuso has demonstrated, the House financial overhaul bill would give financial regulators sweeping powers to control firms deemed “too big to fail” and establish a fund for FDIC to use to resolve the affairs of firms it takes over. The real-life effect of the new powers would be to signal to markets that firms are supported by the federal government and guaranteed against failure — thus leading them to take more undue risks, not less. Heritage concludes that Pelosi is creating a permanent TARP. Like Mr. Obama, Ms. Pelosi is once again promising transparency and accountability while they hide behind closed doors with new locks and refuse to follow Obama’s campaign promises to televise health care negotiations. We suggest in our title that Ms. Pelosi is smoking crack cocaine and maybe she can check with New York Mayor Bloomberg on how to learn a safer way to shoot heroin. Something is causing this Leftist addiction to tax, spend and destroy so we only wish to offer suggestions. Indeed!
