Alaa Ahmed Seif El Islam, a very famous Egyptian Blogger and activist was arrested today (May 7 2006) in Egypt along with 10 others during a peaceful protest in solidarity with the recent arrests of Judges.
It looks like the Egyptian government would soon have to participate in some sort of prison timeshare program because the number of arrests has gone up significantly lately!
What’s even more troubling is the "charge" they are keeping them for. It appears that "insulting the President" is a chargeable offense these days! Well, Mr. Mubarak, I hope you understand that 75 Million Egyptians are very busy insulting you on a daily basis, are your loyal dogs going to incarcerate and terrorize them all?
If you read this, please do something!
We can’t be silent about this anymore. If outside of Egypt, call the local Egyptian Embassy and inform them that the world is watching in disgust.
If you are in Egypt follow what’s happening at Manal and Alaa’s site and see if people are arranging a protest or an assembly at the location where they are detained and join them.
The more you are the harder it will be for them to make arrests.
