The French are leaving their nation

Today, in France, young graduates seem to have a hard time finding a job in their country. People living in the rural parts of France have no choice but search in big cities. But, as they arrive in important cities of France, they still cannot find a job. Did you know that more than 20% of those who have a diploma cannot find a job in France? Some resort to creating their business, but charges and taxes makes it hard to develop and expand their business. But most of them leave the country, knowing there is no such things as "hope" in France, and head to nations where getting hired is easier. That is happening in France, and it is just starting.

According to a 2005 TNS Sofres poll, 2.2 million French people live in foreign countries — mainly in Europe. Half of those leaving are under the age of 35 years old, believing they will have more chance in other countries. Those departing, and above 35 years old, either say they are leaving for tax reasons or either for professionnal reasons. Even more striking; more than 90% of emigrants are pleased with their new life-styles, and 40% are planning on either never come back to live in France, or come back once they retire.

A simple question is frequently aked by many people; why do millions of French citizens "escape" from their nation? The answer is deceptively simple; France does not have enough jobs for everyone, because hiring is complicated, as lay-offs and firings are so hard to make. At this point, this is a political issue. France has working-matters laws, and, depending on those working-matters laws, creating job can be easy or not. It sure is quite shocking to see young graudates not finding a job in their own country, and this leads to emigration. Seeing young people resort to emigration is humiliating for France, and it can give different impressions on France; a poor creator of jobs, a country where innovation does not seem to exist, etc.

For example, I am an expat’ from France, sent to Washington, DC. I live in DC since many years now, and I enjoy the American life-style. I also enjoy my job in the United-States and I belong to those who plan not to return to France now. My point is that going to foreign countries offers many advantages, and, in some cases, it brings better advantages than France. It’s as if you were looking for a good quality/price plumber. You will probably choose the best one corresponding to your criterias. In this case, emigrants are looking for the best place to find a job easily. Emigrants, that are leaving France, usually go to liberal countries, where incomes are more interesting than in France, where laws allow you to work more than in France, etc.

But, behind those bad news, there is good news, too. Indeed, many of the French expats’ and French emigrants are registered to vote for the up-coming French presidential elections. This means they have hope in France, and they are hoping that one of the candidates will deal with France’s numerous issues. It can mean that French emigrants are willing to come back to France, only if getting a job is made easier from them.

France is a country where immigrants come, but where more and more of the French leave the country, in hope of finding a job somewhere else — in another country. This rapid emigration is started to frustrate France, and it is up to candidates to find a solution to make those French emigrants come back to their own nation.
